| |
The AOA works to keep the media and policy-makers focused on obesity and the need to address the epidemic directly.
The AOA works directly with the heads of key federal agencies to advance our agenda, including the National Institutes of Health, the Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
- The AOA led a coalition to have obesity recognized as one of the Nations ten Leading Health Indicators and have greater prominence in Healthy People 2010.
The AOA provided extensive input into the Surgeon Generals Call to Action to Prevent and Decrease Overweight and Obesity, released in December 2001.
David Satcher, then Surgeon General of the United States, addressed the first AOA public policy conference in September 1999.
